I - 70

by Lucia Haselhorst

Serene road.
I travel you daily.
Each time, I try to avoid the hypnotic state you put me under.
But reistance is futile.

As the Sun’s rays lightly caress the landscapes that embank you,
my eyes begin to search.
They search for warmth, for calmness, except, I cannot see it.
Emptiness begins its attempt on me.

But just when I think that there is nothing, your sinuous nature begins to reveal HOPE.
A smile quietly forces itself out of me as I gently swipe my bangs away.
Then, your elongated beauty reminds me that life is beautiful.
It is harsh at times and unforgiving yet worth living every moment.

You don’t allow me to forget those who have crossed my path.
And that is a good thing.

Soon, the business of you snaps me out of my trance, I realize I had found what I was seeking.
It fills my heart and soul.
As I look back at you through my rearview mirror, you begin to disappear.
But I thank you for allowing me to travel upon you, as I look forward to your serenity again.
