Get Me Out of Here

by Jeffrey Parren

It's not those poets
who practice profundity
as much as who lives in it

that are able to capture
the true essence
of being in this maze.

Saying
“Get me out of here”
is less profound than
entailing the feelings
felt during entrapment.

Silent screams inaudible.

If only someone
was around
to listen.

The line between
profundity
and
“call the wahhh-mbulance”
is but a few short strokes
of the ego vs the truth.

I've graced this line
frequently in my poetry
(career)
and now it seems
the sadness is audible.

It all can change
and I suppose
it begins with me.

I have started the process,
but takers and buyers
are few,
I've only found sellers.
