a Self Portrait of Holes In A Story by JJ JohnsonI am blind to the me others see
within me - beyond me is the fool that never knowed
invisible light exposing the act no one wants to see
shadows hidden from me, uncertain to me
everywhere a sign of truths that i refuse to see
life is an ocean: constant & changing
no end to the flesh of what's living inside me
never succumb to the one on my shoulder
forgive not forget the man i am no one else knows
i wish i wasn't me, two faced
see through inner eyes the great unknown
faith in what i don't believe: a ghost at my door
a grave half-empty under the bridge
emptiness within keeps the weight falling a little shy of it
every Eden has it's apples beyond walls and bridges 12/06/2011 Author's Note: I created this for a contest on another poetry site to write a poem that answers the question, "Who are you?" Gathered from the titles of introspective poems I have written over the years, since I wasn't allowed to use one I had already written, I thought, why write another one when I already have so many? In a few lines I had to add a word in between titles but for the most part, it consists stricktly of poem titles and nothing more. I changed the title to return it to its original form and have it conform to the concept of the piece... jj

Posted by Jody Pratt on 12/06/11 at 07:29 AM I think you should take all the capitalization out as it makes for a very distracting read. The explanation at the bottom is clarity enough that this is made from titles and makes it interesting to read for that fact alone. |
Posted by Lori Blair on 12/06/11 at 09:14 PM I am wondering if the first title, with the letter "a" is intentionally left uncapitalized to add to the effect of lack of self-knowledge..Who are we indeed? A universal question and I loved how you put this altogether! :) |
