a solid calender year

by Vikki Owens

it filled me with such grief
i thought a veil had covered me,
and wishing to transcend was a plea
that filled my heart and empty dreams.

such heartless, hollow things
these birdboned memories
of loving and then losing you
and loveless, being left destitute,
a coldness buried in my bones
the home of all the feelings i have left
a marrowless, organless place within my chest.

still,

within the cycles of the sun
i have found a meaning to the grief.
a solid calender year
has passed in front of me
and taught me how to heal.

This is intensely lyrical - beautiful writing
