I'll be riding the tsunami

by Meghan Helmich

I woke up in the dark this morning
before you and the sun
could flood my mind
and wash the locals to their graves.

The water receded with houses
and pets and children, small
swollen vessels spotting the beach.
Fundraisers began.

Once day broke, I saw
the barnacles crowding the sides
and cut the anchor line.
I have no reason to stay here.
