Friendship Doesn't Always Rhyme

by JJ Johnson

Remember when we met, how you trusted me
The distant past is a distance too long to see
We live so far apart two clocks cannot sync
Hour hands will never clap, no time to interlink
Though time ages what can be seen
Inside we are who we've always been

In my core you are more than a friend
And you know my heart does not pretend

It takes love for love to be defined
And mine doesn't want to be confined
To our conversations in the night
Or the simple songs and rhymes I write
Maybe our friendship doesn't always rhyme
And sometimes mine is better left unsaid

Author's Note: This isn't much of a poem and the only reason for posting it is because it inspired another poem titled Better Left Unsaid, which was only slightly better than this one, but started a chain reaction of poems that became my obsession for Lisa over several years. jj
