Virtual Loss

by Rob Littler

Looking at the wreckage
Of my hard driven Mother
Board, and the blank screen
With no hope, just no hope at all
That she will ever recover—viral,
the good man said shuttering,
Offering me a deal on her bones—
It was then that the sudden appeal
To make a life-saving deal to salvage it
Was because I couldn’t bear the thought
Of losing the memory of what I had had.
