Yearning

by Jeffrey Parren

My words sometimes
stumble out
onto this paper
with reservation
and often hindrance.

Fitting
this metaphor
for life
is such a constant.

The ebb and flow
coincides
with an uncontrollable
yearning
to discover all that I can
about myself.

I know not
what I love to do
perhaps as
I have not yet lived
enough.

Though years add
and knowledge creeps in
finding me knowing more
about things and situations
I have not discovered
that thing
that
makes me tick.

Words greet me
at the oddest of times
and they force their way out
when the timing abides
otherwise
they stay sheltered
free from the harsh
realities of this world.

I've been stumbling
through this life
half the time
acknowledging
the parts that irk me
while the rest
trying to ignore
that yearning I have
inside
that never seems
to be satisfied.

Many of us stumble through life not just words and many of us really never understand ourselves though we think we do. Nice write Jeffrey.
