Snowflakes by Craig AllenSnowflakes I
Falling, glittering, tiny
fragments of stars
made from intricate
geometrically shaped ice
crystals, formed with
mathematical precision,
sticking to eyelashes, hats,
scarves, tongues held out
and up to taste cold starlight
that gathers together
to blanket the world
in softness and silence.

Snowflakes II
Did he pray to Allah
as he poured death into
the bottle?
Were his prayers said
to praise life or death?
Was his motive to kill
in the name of his god
or his political ideology?
Was it for religion,
or out of hatred for those
of the West?
Did he fail because
of divine intervention,
or simply because he didn’t
mix the chemicals properly?
Whatever the answers,
as least this Christmas
did not see innocents raining
down like snowflakes.
