The Dividing Line

by Rob Littler

I'm searching for the body's end and soul's start,
For I feel myself here—flesh, revolving a windowed mind
And the Earth is spinning inside the beat of my heart.

You see, there is a field that keeps the two apart
And yet that twin force is the same tie to bind.
I am searching for the body's end and soul's start,

Questioning what I am—why with blood I play a part,
Knowing the dividing-line I seek I shall never find,
Not while the Earth is spinning inside the beat of my heart.

True then, maybe I shall never have an answer until I depart
This bodied earth, and my spirit-soul begins to float and shine,
But death lingers, and I'm searching for the body's end and soul's start

Because I need to find peace now, though every horse has left its cart
Leaving the questioning of my life all but a pitted surface mine.
And still, as the Earth is spinning inside the beat of my heart

I see that seeking separation has been the motivation of my art,
And I know that I may one day be leaving both body and soul behind.
Though I know that in my search for the body's end and soul's start,
I go on because I feel the Earth spinning inside the beat of my heart.
