Gateways to Rust by Dan LinnMy mother's older sister never married.
Education had been her vocation.
The nurse she had taken for roommate
Became her lifelong best friend
"Our darlings." they said, "we're not gay".
We have just left our gateways to rust.
Our love for each other is practical,
A partnership based on our trust.
So I ask you what marriage is more,
These most sensible people I know.
What deity hates brilliant old ladies
Whose gates have rusted out so. 06/21/2009 Author's Note: My Aunt and her companion are the most trusted and respected elders of my family.
