“Noooo...” you say, for at least three beats.
Eyes cast down, but smiling.

Eyes back up, face trying to be blank.
I make a stupid face
(maybe an autistic duck this time),
and you burst out in giggles.

I track your cat down the hallway,
swaggering lazily with a sway to his gut.
I swoop in, eagle fast.
He makes a dumb face.
Not again, perhaps?

I walk into your room,
a warm fuzz in my arms - surveying
out the window, or his nemesis the snake -
You look up from your computer,
and as I dump him
unceremoniously next to you,
“I caught you a present!”
