"You women, you have no self-control"

by Meghan Helmich

He told me I had no self-control
and I wanted to throttle him right there.
Maybe he has a point
in that starry fistful of fables he carries around.

When he told me the world was round
and planes would take us along its limits
and make our ears pop like confetti guns,
I rolled my eyes.

The room gets very small when he walks in
to my hotel and I tell him
he does't hold a candle to life
and he holds my lying tongue between his teeth.

I might need a cigarette after this. It's a short, but exhaustive journey, to be sure. So many great lines, too.
