The Poet Bukowski

by Amy Manning

someone else in his place
might be
jaded
mildly repulsive
vulgar
crude
and self-destructive

he's all those things

except

like a clever turn of phrase

his life
and the landscape
he made of it

in all the filth

what some assholes call
'only' lowbrow

was inexplicably beautiful
in his eyes

looking through
his dark glasses
in the warping
oscillating vision

of a drunk.

Author's Note: He is and will always be one of my favorite poets.

Same here. Dig the poem, too.
