It's a Journey

by Deborah Breuer

You don’t know me.
A “me” unparalleled to anything you’ve seen before.
I can not be labeled,
For not one label alone can adequately mark me.
With knowledge as the only constant power
I find that I am,
Among other things,
A woman among gods,
As I teach the future to be in awe.

You don’t know me.
I can not be defined,
Nor restricted.
I can not be contained by these physical walls,
As I journey to seek higher truths.
I frantically scribe on the boundaries,
Breaking the fortress of stereotypes and judgments.

You can’t know me.
Not a me that can’t be seen but only felt.
You perceive this woman of a small stature and of gentle nature,
And you presume to understand the soul that this body carries;
However, short of true karmic companions,
I fear I must reveal to you the truth.

You don’t know me.
The me that is a survivor of catastrophic occurrences.
A martyr of various times.

You don’t know me,
Because knowing me is a journey all its own.
Understanding me,
An even farther journey.
But in this pursuit of gaining perspective,
I challenge you.
Take the first leap.

That first leap would be so well worth it..I can't imagine it any other way..and how I understand these words! You took those words and made meaning! Great write!

Certainly putting all the cards on the table in this. Wonderful voice and low-key intensity.

I loved every moment of this poem. It was as if you took my heart and soul into your hands, read them, and wrote their story down; so precious and so beautiful is this piece!
