A Nail Polish Obsession

by Jennifer L Banks

I have a confession,
A nail polish obsession.
Pretty swirly colors in
little bottles of my liquid gold.
It didn't start when I was young,
I cannot say it's just begun,
yet are 100 bottles too much?

Pinks and reds I do NOT adore
Glitters and sparkly things I ignore,
neither of those colors called
Jersey Shore. I believe this
obsession makes me poor.

I stop into a Sally's and I gaze
around the floor, and stop for ten,
twenty minutes in a daze before -
every color at my fingertips,
Every shade, every hue
every plastic nail chip is in my view.

Names like "I'm not really a waitress" in
bright crimson and "Teal the cows come home"
beg my attention
"Natural Mauve" next to some candles and
"Topless and Barefoot" I think....
It would go with my summer sandals.

For fall I want browns like "Little Brown Dress"
And flaming oranges and dark purples I must confess.
A princess wore "Allure" on her wedding day...
Essie screamed for months, they wanted it that way.

Washes of pale beige, sheer pinks, corals
neutrals and creams
fall between icy blues,
golds and "sins and morals" and "silver dreams"

"For Audrey", I have that in Tiffany Blue
The main color that compliments me,
when I go out without you.

"Ballet Slippers" with it's pale sheer white
"Mink Muffs" begs me to take it home, I might.
"French Quarter" too gray, I have that in "Master Plan"
"Most Beige" I can shake a stick at, I look at "Sun-Tan"

I pick up three bottles
and head to the cashier
My "Tru-Blue" "Molten Copper" and "French Roast"
I pull out my credit card -
My obsession I wanted the most.

Hehe, this is adorable and wonderful. I've been on a manicure kick as of late, so I can relate to this a little =)
