For the colored ones

by Sal Haefling

where is your face
in all of the magazine racks
looking at the television screen
staring at the popular ones

where is your identity
on barbie dolls and commercials
celebrities and filmmakers

how do you live this way?
not knowing who you are and
what they must think of your culture
by displaying images of
caucasian purity and colored darkness

aesthetics full of lies
tearing down a whole entity of people

how do we not live in denial of this
one-class one-colored society?

...think about it

Author's Note: Look at who is still on top; take a trip down the nearest toy isle. Look at your tv screen. Catch up on colored women in filmmaking, acting, and fashion advertising. What color(s) do you see? When will our society represent every single being that makes life so magical and so deeply enriched in difference?

...good diatribe at a non-entity that's difficult to hit.
