dogs know

by Charlie Morgan

two dogs take my hands,
one right; one left.

i feel wanted at long last.

but the stubby, bleeding nubs
make it difficult to feel anything;

my audience just sits, licks and looks;
two people of the dogworld covered in hair;
ask for no encore, their paws in the air, stirring;

like pushing lumber in a rainforest,
spread out and a-bed, they slumber.
dreaming a gray, black/white dog-dream.

rabbits leap, cats fur-up; lions roar
immediately after eating you. dogs know.
