Into a Mirror

by Joe Cramer

I stare into the mirror
watching a face that
looks like my own.
No narcissism, no remorse,
only the curiosity
of what lies before me,
based on what happened before.
The mirror glistens,
darkly at first,
a frown, furrowing my brow.
I don't know exactly how
or even why this has happened.
The face, glimpsed in the mirror
lightens, smiling back
briefly at me.
This face I now see
becomes me.

Sometimes when I look into the mirror I see someone I don't at all recognize while other times I see myself as I wish to be..perhaps mirrors can lie if we allow them to? nice write Joe..thanks!
