An Old Crush

by Jennifer L Banks

When I was young, you said hi and I ran.
Away from you, boy, teen and man.
Now 30 yrs later I stand before you,
same shy girl, thinking,I must bore you.

Your smile shines on me,
your brown eyes intently stare
and I keep thinking to myself,
I don't belong here and feel so bare.
A part of me still frozen,
in time, in space, in the past.
I wonder just how long this old crush can last.

It's a silly thing to feel this way
as you go about your hardworking day.
To fish, to hunt, to pay bills and live.
I don't know what part I can give.

You have a life I say, letting out a sigh
But it wasn't me long ago that stopped and said hi.

Now years later you look at me and I say "hi"
and you just smile, that little grin
and return that soft boyish "hi"....

I, too, like this story. So nicely expressed!

Funny how often it works out this way. I know it all too well, you think it isn't there and...hi.
