An Old Crush by Jennifer L BanksWhen I was young, you said hi and I ran.
Away from you, boy, teen and man.
Now 30 yrs later I stand before you,
same shy girl, thinking,I must bore you.
Your smile shines on me,
your brown eyes intently stare
and I keep thinking to myself,
I don't belong here and feel so bare.
A part of me still frozen,
in time, in space, in the past.
I wonder just how long this old crush can last.
It's a silly thing to feel this way
as you go about your hardworking day.
To fish, to hunt, to pay bills and live.
I don't know what part I can give.
You have a life I say, letting out a sigh
But it wasn't me long ago that stopped and said hi.
Now years later you look at me and I say "hi"
and you just smile, that little grin
and return that soft boyish "hi"....
