Z

by Cassandra Leigh

a
black sheep, smoke
and mirrors, people
smiling, feint
and parry

caught
in
this crystal lattice
subatomically
alluring, vibrating
with wanderlust, pushing
against the sky
with deft hands
more afraid
of blind
shipwreck than
forced annihilation
vehemently flicking sparks
into the night

Z,

never be
complacent.
at dusk, the carillon
bells sound
the death of
a small prospect
like unmatched potential
spread thin
over
the farthest
reaches of
an expanding universe

the last stanza is brilliant, I like the rest too, but the last stanza just hits me in the gut.
