tender heart

by Peter Humphreys

the warm
and wondrous
caress
of the westerly winds
set my senses alight

I could see
your wilful
waving hair again
as in the times
of Eridanus

the tender touch
of your warm breath
on my eager
waiting lips
made me shiver
with pleasure
and pain

skyward you came
'twixt grey gloom
and rain
enfolding me
caressing me
diverting me
from the pain within
the deep dark
will of loss

I turned around
Kilgalligan's strand
and set my feet
to heaven's
bright shore
where loss
and gain
would no more
pain
my febrile
yet tender
heart

O set me free
once more to
be the self
I dreamed of once
and let me feel
upon my lips
the salty kiss
of my lover's lips
the deep dark
soul of Erris

This has a real ghostly quality to it. There's definitely something other-worldly going on in this. Nicely done.
