That New You

by Jeffrey Parren

To have remorse
is to somehow
deny yourself
the present you.

The only way
to move forward
is to acknowledge
this agony of choice.

To fix the nagging
should be done
in earnest caring
for the other person

and though the intention
is inherently first person
the focus should adhere
to the damaged first.

Being honest
and forthcoming
is assuredly the fast track
to fixing life's snags.

Close that remorse
because it is keeping you
from moving forward
from being that new you.
