Tow Law - the Farmer

by Ben Evans

Blue twine binds bales
curls up at ends
and, doubled back
swings the father
under the shade
of sheet asbestos
dry and tied to
rusty rafters
at the one end
while the other
choked laboured breath
from a blue throat
and the cows low
sending echoes
through the barn's dust
so one would swear
they moved him
