Thank you, Sicily

by Julie Adams

some say it arrived just in time,
the affectionate sonnetto

love begat it's birth
from a little song

bobbing downstream
like a curious basket

lining the golden shores
of the renaissance

and today I, too, am lured
by the faint strombotto

swept up amidst
the hyperbolic surge

between conflict and resolution
all the while, a muse inspires

atop her pedestal
even the nineth line must turn and see

Petrarcha's Laura
Dante's Beatrice

a penchant paradox of desire
yet attained

Author's Note: Appreciating the presence of Italian sonnets :)
