with a head-turn

by Charlie Morgan

silence swarms me; i settle into
a world of lizard movements, i stir
at a moment's jerkiness. it quells.

a cinch in the day, that tiny time
when the Sun is waving-off today,
it's suitcase packed for tomorrow.

the pines ache as the wind bluffs by,
aspens quake, and a sprark is snuffed.
i hear distant breezes off Bali Ha'i;

a soft groan of 77 years of puppydom
sprawls-out at my feet. she sighs.
my future is now and i'm behind.

That first line grabbed me and wouldn't let go. "Swarming silence" is a concept I wish I'd thought of, because it DOES feel that way sometimes!
