September 15

by Meghan Helmich

Somewhere I'm sure I've got a bright pink notice lying around
with bold warnings that I ignored.
"No more thick nights in rooms with covered lamps
where the faces and wallpaper blend together."

The french doors to the balcony were locked
by the previous owners
so I have to lean through the front door
to spit on the heads of passerby.

I stopped living about five months ago,
and before that, it had been at least two years.

That middle stanza is just awesome, awesome and very, very nicely done.
