precipice by Cassandra Leighwhat i lack in birthdays
you lack in naivete
and if we were to bet with those numbers
i'd be all in--
despite my awful poker face.
i only know summer with you,
the bright hot sweat, the burning
i want to know winter
(and autumn and spring and)
the grey skies of sleet and snow will
only make your lips feel
that much warmer
a lot of you i don't know but
i know like i was born knowing that
waking to you is like
sunlight filtering through water, like
lying on the bottom of the pool
looking up
if you left me tomorrow,
or like i will leave you tomorrow,
despite 2355 miles or 2355 microns of separation
alone is no longer in it 07/20/2011 Posted on 09/20/2011 Copyright © 2024 Cassandra Leigh

Posted by Meghan Helmich on 09/20/11 at 07:20 PM I love that bottom of the pool image. I stopped breathing for a moment. |

Posted by Ken Harnisch on 09/21/11 at 12:30 PM The first stanza grabbed me, and the rest just pulled me in so deeply I too felt like I was in the pool looking up... applause! |
