US by Amy ManningWalking through a pathless forest
all of us friends
trusting the direction
of whoever i see in front
the sky is a dark loaded grey
and it's raining, but it doesn't touch us
i'm stepping over leaves and fallen branches
getting my sandals and feet muddy
i listen to the laughter
and swearing
and exclamations
so easy to grin from a
perfect contentment
we slip down a muddy hill
clinging to trees like gawking monkeys
a miracle none of us fell
through an archway of trees
we finally come upon a park
and open air
the downpour greets us
with cold kisses
exhilaration
not a single form of technology on my person
we run into it
slipping and sliding in the soaked turf
batter up on the sludgy home plate
i made it to first base
on a pitch with a ball made of air
after that the players lost interest
merging further in the rain
companionship
events brought us up to everyone shirtless
under the pavilion
utterly soaked
the girls looking vulnerable in bras
the boys looking strong & free
giddy with the experience
not just that
but in love with each other
and how life feels enchanting
the future feels attainable
this is what it feels like
when life loves you back 09/02/2011 Author's Note: I've finally found a collection of people that function with me and apart from me like an octopus that has phantom limbs that it never lost, but discovered.
