The Same Man

by Jeffrey Parren

I can never be the same man
looking into this same mirror

or that same man
touching my toes
into this once familiar
stream near where
I grew up.

The days pass
mounting into years
and as always
I'm a late bloomer:

I like myself more now
than I ever have.

I'm at the cusp
of something big
and for some reason
the external forces
want to push down
ever so harder
at my time of flourish.

I'm not so sure
if the struggle is better
than the reward
because once you are there
you have nowhere else to go

but this time I'd really like
the struggle to be the journey
and the reward
not be the final end
yet just another brick
to the building up
that is me.

Good luck Jeffrey!! You take a step up as I start the voyage down.

Favourited; intensely personal and wonderful to read.

Good luck, Jeffrey! The beauty of life is that we change, along with our experiences, so even though you'll never be the same man, you'll be better =)!
