Two Peach Day Poems 2011 by Leonard M Hawkes(I)
Warm this year--
Briskness as inconsistant
As the late-summer harvest--
But like those roots
That nourish the long leaves
And the vigorous growth
Of water sprouts--
A spirit of community
In the rich soil of tradition,
Anchors us to the fruit
Of this Founders Feast.
(II)
Its like the early harvest--
The expectation is there,
But the finding of the ripened fruit
Seems more like chance
(No need just now for science).
It's the sweetness:
That cultivated taste
For home-grown goodness
That seems to always bring us
Back here to the Garden.

Posted by George Hoerner on 09/11/11 at 06:56 AM We all have our gardens to harvest don't we. For some it just takes a little longer to recognize them. I like this sir. |
