September 1

by Meghan Helmich

I pace around the palms when I'm called
by the names of beautiful women.
Their shaped brows and tapestry dresses
stretch far across this fleshy figure;
Faces shine in fits of vanity.

Tomorrow might be more than hazel eyes
and high cheekbones.

I have hazel eyes and I often feel very small around beautiful women.
