how to work again

by Vikki Owens

when i stopped seeing
diamonds and confetti
after every footfall that he
left imprinted on my heart,
when the cogs and wheels of my
memory stood still
and his fingertips were no longer
vaportrails left on me while i slept,
the devastation was complete.

the circuitboard sleeps.

but i do know how to work again,
fire up these engines
hardwire to the mainline
i've reconnected to the ether

shellshocked and convulsive
technical things like love
and motion
take a minute,
if you travel around the world you'll end up where you were.
i learn to sink or swim
and learning that is how you work again.

Outstanding. I have the chills and every fiber of my being feels sparked. Beautiful imagery and flow.
