Posted by Jim Benz on 08/28/11 at 01:21 PM very topical, George, and you handled it like a master. I haven't voted for a POTD in ages, but I'll enthusiastically click on the button for this one. |
Posted by Linda Fuller on 08/28/11 at 02:14 PM I really like the point of view in this. |
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 08/29/11 at 01:46 AM My only critism about this economical description of the hurricane is that you've used the word "tired" twice. Otherwise, a concise and appreciated description of a monster. Thanks, George!! |
Posted by Joan Serratelli on 08/30/11 at 01:24 PM My kid took me to Md. She was afraid; I wasn't. Your desription says it all. It was a wild night. |
Posted by Ken Harnisch on 09/01/11 at 06:39 AM Mr. Williams couldn't have said any plainer or any better, George. Goodnight Irene, I say |
Posted by Rula Shin on 09/28/11 at 02:06 AM When I was in school I was surprised when I realized just how much I adored reading Willian Carlos William's work. I haven't read "Hurricane" but surely this little piece of yours has a unique tone in which the dramatic violence of a tempest takes is recounted with the ease of nonchalance, the choiceless acceptance of insecurity amidst conflict, and even death. There is a strange calm and quiet which pervades the turbulent subject. I found this very intruiging and almost comforting. Indeed life appears to us like a whirling and chaotic hurricane, but our interpretation of it which causes us unrest and anxiety. This is the condition of man. Peace is to be amidst the hurricane externally while remaining at ease from within. Kudos to you Sir. |
