Rollercoaster

by Erin Jones

I sit in this seat, strap myself in
Preparing for the ride
The motors click and we begin
Trekking this steep climb

Suddenly, we’re at the top
I feel like I can reach the sky
Looking down on the world
The highest high of my life

And then it drops

I scream uncontrollably
Grabbing for whatever I can find
Gripped in infinite terror
I can barely scream anymore

And then it stops

Wrenched back into the air
Flying up to another high
I’d almost say this wasn’t fair
But it’s the best ride of my life

It's a fantastic ride, to be sure.
