i've been the leper

by Vikki Owens

i've been the leper,
i've become the not quite
healed,
not to say im in pieces,
but still on my last leg.

in my dreams
i still see you,
a face that has been etched
caustically on my soul,
and when i love you in my dreams
i learn that love is
non-corporeal.

i burned to ashes,
and became an ember,
the not quite remnant of
what once burned,
but still i flicker,
and i still love you,
though i only touch you
in the dark.

That third stanza is my easy favorite. This was wonderful.
