Country Girl

by Richard Vince

She’s come to the city with
Her country eyes that shine
Like the Sun rising over
Rolling hills.

With her optimistic smile, she
Banishes the shadows of
The buildings that tower
Over her and separate her
From the horizon.

The joy spreads like ink
From the spot where she
Stands, colouring
A hundred monochrome days.
I smile and wonder why
I was frowning.

Will she understand why
So many of the eyes around her
Are clouded with boredom
When hers are open and
Filling with the wonder
Of the unfamiliar?

While everyone else hides
Behind phones, paperbacks
And tail lights, she opens
Her heart and wills
The city to enter.

So full of good cheer; this is a joyous read.

Wow, I know how country girl feels. I have just moved and this sums things up perfectly.

I picture a country girl overwhelmed by the nature (or lack thereof) in a "Big City".. I can see in my "mind's eye". A wonderful, glorious piece. Thanks for sharing.
