HE

by Amy Manning

when asked what
his worst fear was
he said
he didn't know
it wasn't something
he thought about

he couldn't explain
why he felt
anything
he avoided difficult
thoughts & emotions
as well as being

alone

i came to the
realization
that the part of him
that was alive
vibrantly so
was asleep
and he fearfully
shhh!-ed
everything that might
disturb

resting life
inside

what a waste

So true!

I love the way "alone" ties to the end of the sentence before it, as well as to the one following. It's beautiful and brilliant and genius.

some people like the inside of the cocoon better than the outside. same with the skull. same with views.
