Wanderer

by Kate Swearingen

It is this most sorrowful curse
most fatal flaw
the push and pull,
that abandons me in some kind of purgatory:
the wanting,
longing for the wanderer, the adventurer
the unsettled spirit
the eternally unsatisfied always seeking more
and, simultaneously
the fear of succumbing.
The fear of being unsettled
of being eternally unsatisfied
or,
worse,
of being unable to satisfy.
