When I Was Young by Amy ManningDad tied the balloon onto my pudgy wrist
The pull of helium felt almost felt like holding mom's hand
Cotton candy was still singing inside my mouth
The scent of sunscreen was too thick to smell the flowers
Adults around me talked about lofty things that I almost understood
I saw the knot slowly come undone but did nothing
The balloon rose until it was a tiny red dot, then, it disappeared
