I'm Sure You Already Knew That by Jeffrey Parrenredefining home sweet home
has been my existence
finding desperation
in between sleepless nights
and the labors of laborers
mimicking happiness
in shrewd attempts
at grandeur.
the couch its usual self
grumpy at best
as I try to find dreams
but there is none
for the lost souls.
home used to be
mowing the lawn
and basketball or
the occasional whiffle ball
in the driveway.
then she left us all
and in so stopped progression.
time continued on
as time does
but we've all been
scarcely the same.
perpetual change
is the new norm
when once upon a time
I could sit and stare
and always knew
you were a mere
phone call away.
I can have conversations
with you now
without falling to pieces.
I talk to you
like you're a god,
and for all intents and purposes
you were mine.
I tell you things that are going on
and then quickly say
“I'm sure you already knew that.”
and so that's how it goes.
in not having a place
to call my own
to call home
I've endured and accepted
all that there is to do so
before finally moving on
and finding out
the future that is mine.
and yes I suppose
it's without you
there to see it
in the physical sense
and perhaps
you already know
how my movie will climax
and necessarily end.
I guess I just hope
my movie finds you
crying tears of happiness
knowing you did
the best job anyone could have
with me
and until the next time I see you
I'll live the way I was meant to all along
but I'm sure you already knew that. 07/12/2011 Posted on 07/12/2011 Copyright © 2025 Jeffrey Parren
