The Visit

by Jane E Pearce

A quiet, humid, July night
after a day with my daughter,
full of remembering,
and yesterday's laughter.

How nice to get out shopping
and gab about children
and husbands we love, without stopping.

Now, night hangs heavy and again
I'm alone but it's Ok to be apart,
for joy hangs close after hosting
another familiar heart.
