Unholy Sonnet by Kate ZimmermanIn the knell of night a child cries
And awaits the black and blue of bruises
Of the fight she fights, but always loses-
A slash of crimson against the skies.
She thinks the Bible is full of lies
For if God can do as He chooses,
Her life wouldn't consist of verbal nooses
Swinging until the day she dies.
She doesn't have a place to go-
The darkness around her has no light.
She thinks there is no god to know,
And who can tell her she isn't right?
To look into her eyes and say it's so,
To look into the depths of her deepest night? 09/06/2007 Posted on 07/06/2011 Copyright © 2025 Kate Zimmerman
