The Canary by Rhyana FisherYears wasted
cheeping my fool head off,
trying to warn you
there were consequences
when you let anger run your life.
They didn't cage the canary
in the coal mine
for her song.
When she keeled over
miners knew to run like hell.
Unlike some people,
they knew better
than to stand around
bitching about the bird
being too sensitive.
I did warn you.
Hitting people 'til you get your way
never works longterm.
Now you've been left to stew
in your own poisoned atmosphere.
This canary flew the coop
and ain't coming back. 07/04/2011 Posted on 07/05/2011 Copyright © 2025 Rhyana Fisher

Posted by Linda Fuller on 07/08/11 at 09:32 PM I like this quite a bit - stanza #4 particularly. |
Posted by Elizabeth Jill on 11/14/12 at 11:33 PM gah, this is so right-on. Says things that my mind thinks and keeps hushed about.
"Hitting people 'til you get your way
never works longterm.
Now you've been left to stew
in your own poisoned atmosphere."
if only I had the courage to tell this to whom needs to hear it.

Posted by Ava Blu on 11/16/12 at 05:05 PM I wish I could say I've always been the canary.
I don't know how to tell you what this did to me. |
