Self-awareness is not the new black

by Wayne Tate

Being self-aware is not the new black.

It is the stone
digging into my heal
as I tread thousands of paths
knowing they all lead
in the same direction.

This is amazing. I truly enjoyed it. Small enough to read in a blink and strong enough to knock someone on their ass. love it.

Truly wondering; Did you use the word 'heal' instead of 'heel' purposefully to emphasize the pain of being alienated? My mind keeps seeing this finish. 'knowing they all deal/with the same direction'. because I desperately want to rhyme here for some reason. Good poem, a bit haunting in the sentiment and feel. Thanks for the read.
