Terrible Things

by Wayne Tate

I've done things;
terrible things.

I have done what I have done
and my remorse will neither
console nor heal you.

No, this is not an appeal.

You do far more harm to yourself
than I could ever hope to do to you,
if I asked you to forgive me

Please, do not give me permission
to hurt you all over again
and this time,
allow me to relish it.

You are far stronger
than I could ever hope to be
and your charming naivete,
as always, alarms me.

No... will not asking you to forgive me.

Instead I will say,
farewell,
I wish you no harm,

especially from me.

Very thought provoking. The nakedness combined with a hint of unconscious denial in view is what makes it good. Nice write.
