one last time

by Peter Humphreys

it seems
like a lifetime
and
in a way
it is
since I walked along
these gentle banks
as riffle raffle
waters flow
bog brown
o'er banks and
braids of stream
where heron waits
and stalks
along with
neck and
piercing beak
alert
tense waiting
trout escaping
down from
Glenasmole
t'wards the sea
they may not
see
though years few
'twixt me and you
a lifetime seems
as in my dreams
to slip me by
walking beside
these narrow banks
of elder
horslip
nettle bound
almost each day
I walked by you
the river that
carries hopes
and dreams
down to the
Liffey shore
perhaps
when winter comes
and frost and ice
bedeck thy banks
hunting for
the wren
I'll come
just one last time
yes
one
last
time

Here is hoping you will make it more than one more time. You paint a wonderful picture here Peter.
