thudthudthud

by Amy Manning

motorcycle on the train tracks
under the baking sun
heat from the growling motor
making a haze of hot air
thudthudthud
the wheels turn and strike the tracks with
hypnotizing regularity
could almost believe this is a private carriage
sweaty sun-burned biker
roaring like a lion
in dead cow skin
for my safety
for my freedom
let the open road go on and on

The word play and language in this is flawless. The ending is pretty damn perfect, too.
