RIP Mouse

by Jeffrey Parren

This fragile mouse has seen easier days.

Today is the day of its demise.

As the smallest follicles of hair
and the bits of skin
that endlessly get caught
into the track ball
summarize its life,

the madness of its failure
consumes every simple click
that takes 12 repetitive movements
before attaining the area
where clicking is possible.

This fragile mouse has seen days without labor.

Today is not one of them.

As I grasp the cord
that once kept it connected
to my computer
telling it what to do,
I will now tell it

that the whirling sensation
is not me spinning it
for the understanding
of what it is like
to be on a carnival ride.

And as this fragile mouse
careens until meeting the ground
my release will be found.

Author's Note: RIP Mouse that came with my computer. You served your purpose. I now know that buying one to begin with would have been the brighter idea.

Proof that you can take even the smallest thing and blow it up into something that is compelling and well done. Enjoyed this.
