Appreciation

by Jeffrey Parren

I could study
every square inch of you
finding reasons
one upon another
why I love you so.

I can do this
while watching you
be with another man
since you were never mine
to begin with.

Some days
I see you running your route
while I'm doing
the things I do
without ever knowing your name.

At the grocery store
finding sustenance
through items of survival
I see you
in my quiet homage.

Women.
How do I appreciate thee
whilst you haven't unto me?

It is better to think of them fair
instead to be learned otherwise.

In this pensive struggle
I find loneliness as my mate
watching the days of my life
pass me bye with little to hold dear
and with even less to look forward.
